Hotel overview

Set amid a peaceful neighborhood with easy access to Chincoteague’s top spots, this 2-star resort hotel offers an inviting mix of villa-style accommodations. Each unit features a full kitchen and gas fireplace, creating a low-key environment suited for travelers seeking home-like comfort. The indoor pool provides a welcome option for rainy days or relaxation after outdoor activities.

Travelers book The Reef for its straightforward charm and convenient location, just a short stroll to the Refuge Waterfowl Museum and within close reach of the famous Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague Island. Without onsite dining services, guests appreciate the nearby local eateries and shops, making it easy to explore the island’s culinary scene.

The property offers free parking and Wi-Fi, and while it does not accommodate pets or provide a fitness center, its kid-friendly rooms and accessibility features cater well to families and those with mobility needs. The lack of airport shuttle requires visitors to arrange their own transport but proximity to Salisbury Regional Airport by car makes arrivals manageable.

“We stayed at The Reef on the first weekend of August. We received EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE from the moment I called to book our reservation. Vivian was so kind, courteous & more than accomodating when I mentioned that we would be traveling with my Father-in-law who is elderly & has trouble negotiating stairs. She suggested the Sol Villa. He was very comfortable sleeping on the trundle sofa with a big screen TV & access to the main floor bathroom with shower. The check-in and check-out process was extremely easy and the staff is super friendly & helpful...a special shout out to Christian who provided extra blankets & checked in with my father-in-law during our stay. The entire unit was VERY CLEAN & the landscaping is well kept. The unit had a fully stocked kitchen with coffee pot, microwave, refrigerator & stove w/oven for those wishing to cook. Although we didn't use the bikes or paddleboards, they were available for use, first come, first served along with picnic tables & charcoal grills in the back. A big highlight for my teens was going to Maui Jack's waterpark (passes were included w/our stay)! It is an easy walk from The Reef as is the McDonald's (adjacent to Chincoteague pony pens), Pony Tails Candy shop (next door), other restaurants, boutique shops & more. We didn't use the indoor pool, but what a nice option to have on site for days when the weather isn't so great for the beach/waterpark. The Reef is very well managed, clean, safe, comfortable & a great value! We plan to visit again soon as we have many great memories in Chincoteague; we will definitely stay at The Reef again & highly recommend it!”

“We had a great experience here. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. It is in a great location the pool house was cleaned everyday and it's nice to have a indoor pool when the wind picks up on the beach. Vivian is a great manager she tended to all our needs. We had contact less check in via text and she also let us check out later with no charge to accommodate our needs. I highly recommend. The price was great too. Thank you we will be staying here again.”

“Stayed for a week with my husband and two children. The location and amenities were great! Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and bikeable to Assateague. Didn’t hurt that the McDonald’s was across the street for picky eaters.. We used the indoor pool everyday, it was great to give our skin a break from the sun. Water park is within walking distance and has attractions for all ages. Between the included bike rentals, pool, and water park passes this was a great stay for our family. We will be back!!”

“I was a walk in and the rate I received was outstanding. Vivian was very kind, helpful and responsive. Check in was easy and departure was easy. Stayed in the beach house and it was very spacious and clean. No ants which I feel is hard to find a place without them in Chincoteague. Honestly I wish I could stay here since I come every year. Thank you again for your accommodations.”

“The service at The Reef was an answer to prayer and an amazing blessing to our family! Due to my poor planning i came in as a walk-in, but because of that we got 50% off our bill for our stay! in addition to that, we got some free tickets to the Waterpark across the street! Aaaand we could use the bike rentals for free (but 1st come, 1st serve). Not to mention the facility was beyond what I expected to get...full kitchen, and bathroom and a half, and in addition to 2 rooms with queen beds was the living room couch that turned into a bed. This was perfect for my family of 5! We definitely want to come back here next year The workers were so nice and compassionate and cared about all the details. Also, they have an indoor pool! Another wonderful plus! I highly recommend anyone who would be good, honest, courteous customers to stay there...they don't deserve negative, nasty people who would take advantage or trash their facilities. many blessings to The Reef, and all the workers there!”

“My stay at The Reef Villas was so wonderful. Vivian, the property manager, was so professional, kind, and helpful. I felt instantly at home and the Villa was very clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. It was an added bonus to find pet-friendly accommodations here at The Reef, and my pup Riley had a great time and loved her stay. The grounds are very well-kept and the property was peaceful and quiet. I'm already booking my stay for next year!”
